STX GOLF TAPS U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY AS ITS R&D PARTNER
Baltimore, MD - October 23, 2000 - STX Golf's National Sales Manager, Greg Fudge, announced today that the company has entered into a joint contract with the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, for an extensive new research and development program.
According to Fudge, the Naval Academy will conduct scientific testing of the effects of putter-face hardness on the dispersion of putts, as well as testing exotic new materials that may be used in future STX putters. Many of the materials that will be included in the test procedures are currently being utilized in the defense industry. The U.S. Naval Academy is widely recognized as one of the premier educational and research facilities in the world for mechanical engineering.
"I am very impressed with the absolutely incredible test facilities at the U.S. Naval Academy, and I'm looking forward to the invaluable insight this relationship will bring to STX Golf as we evaluate and select dynamic new materials to be utilized in future products," Fudge said. As part of the agreement, a specially equipped test facility will be constructed at the Academy. Along with the actual physical and mechanical testing, test results will be analyzed, diagrammed, and thoroughly reported to STX Golf by the U.S. Naval Academy R&D team. The tests will be performed according to guidelines established by the Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the U.S. Naval Academy.
STX Golf introduced the first patented insert putter in the early 80's. Since that time, the company has consistently led the industry in implementing new standards of innovation, while conforming to USGA rules. STX Golf's full line of putters can be viewed online at www.stxgolf.com.
