STX PUTTERS INTRODUCE INNOVATIVE FITTING DEVICE FOR LONG AND BELLY PUTTERS
BALTIMORE, MD, - March 15, 2004 - STX Putters is enabling golfers to get a grip on determining the correct length of the company's renowned Long and Belly putters.
STX has introduced the STX Putters Belly/Long Fitting Device, designed to help golfers learn how to grip and use a non-traditional length putter. Consumer research by the company revealed this has been a strong area of uncertainty with players.
The STX Fitting Device, which is now available, removes the uncertainty by quickly and easily showing golfers where to place their hands and how to properly hold a Belly or Long putter. The fitting device, designed by STX engineers, provides images for both Belly and Long putters with specific target areas for placement against the body. The grip choices are also shown in pictures and each image is accompanied by a written description.
The STX Putters Belly/Long Fitting Device is held by the golfer in the manner shown in the pictures, just as if he or she were putting. The user then slides the measuring portion of the device until it rests against the desired location on the body. After completing this step, the golfer will be able to read the correct putter length for them.
"If you watched someone trying out a belly or long putter for the first time, which we did during our consumer research, it was very evident that a fitting device was needed," says Jeff Matheson, Global Sales Manager for STX Putters.
"The consumer wanted to try the putters, but if they had the wrong length or were uncertain of how to hold it, they were unable to get comfortable. Now all the uncertainty is gone and the golfer can determine their exact needs," Matheson adds.
"The STX Putters Belly/Long Fitting Device is going to be a key component in helping to transfer what the consumer is seeing on TV into a higher percentage of Belly and Long putter sales," says Matheson. "Golfers are seeing the best players in the world playing and winning with Belly/Long putters and they want to be able to try and do the same. Until now, no one was able to help them make the transition."
STX putters have been in the forefront of golfers' minds for a long time via their consistent exposure on PGA Tour telecasts. The Sync 3 has been the winner of multiple Tour events and is used by Tour players on a regular basis. STX has four Belly/Long putter designs with up to three face options available in three to six different lengths for a total of 48 standard offerings, making them the leader in the Belly/Long category.
The Fitting Device, which has a retail value of $40, will be provided free to golf professionals and retailers currently carrying STX belly and long putters. It will also be free of charge with the purchase of three or more Belly and/or Long putters.
"The fitting device was a huge success at the PGA Merchandise Show and has been ordered by golf professionals and major retailers for placement in all of their locations," says Matheson.
